Avoiding A Slow Computer Issue

The following is an article written by J. Leger for advice to less experienced computer users.

Preparing For Problems That Can Cause A Slow Running Computer:

A new home computer can be a great thing if it runs as it is supposed to. Even today it’s pretty exciting to have a new computer up and running. Some of you are comfortable and ready go to work with your computer.  But still  others are be a bit less excited. Computers still frustrate, aggravate, irritate, annoy… OK you know what I mean. It is nothing to be ashamed of, you just need a little more knowledge.  Many PC users can benefit from more computer education.

Maybe you should consider home computer training such as online classes, e books, or general PC for dummies type books. Many of these are available free on certain computer related sites. A quick search will reveal literally hundreds. But first let’s take a look at a few ideas you need to be aware of to be competent on your home computer and maintain it running for years to come. And avoid your having a slow computer issue down the road.

An area that is often overlooked by a new computer user is Internet security and setting up protections such as firewalls.  A first-rate home computer guidance class will cover how to set up your firewall, and how to optimize your Internet browser to make certain a good experience while online.

Computer training should incorporate how to do storage back-ups.  If any data is important, you should have two copies of it.  Just imagine what happens when the spreadsheet you’ve been using for your financial account balances all of a sudden gets ruined.  If you don’t have an electronic copy of the information, then you will be stuck with re-entering all of the data again.  It’s nice to have a printed copy of a record or file, but it’s also nice to have a back-up of the actual computer file.  With home computer training you should get the experience to know how to best back-up your records, which files to back up, and what utilities will best meet your desires.

Periodically a computer will need a disk cleaning and file de-fragmentation or optimization.  Home PC guidance will help the new computer user learn how to recognize when a computer memory is becoming jumbled, and what to do about it.  File system maintenance is certainly an essential area that should be covered completely in this training.

When files get fragmented into dozens of pieces on your hard drive, your computer can become slow.   Often, third party software creates temporary files while you are using them, and then does not erase these files when you are finished.  Combine this with temporary internet storage and cookies and your work can be bogged down pretty easily.

All of these topics are significant when operating a computer.  Be sure and address these when you are looking a  home computer class study guide.  A good home computer instruction will cover these issues and many, many more.
